Abstract
Excerpt: Since more than half of the wheat acreage of the United States is in the seven Northern Great Plains states and several million acres of land formerly in wheat are idle, the possibilities and limitations of increasing the acreage of wheat in this region are of national as well as regional significance. The objectives of this study are (1) to analyze the wheat supply-and demand situation and its relationship to the Plains; (2) to analyze experience in the use of land resources for wheat production in the Plains; and (3) to discuss, on the basis of these analyses, the possibilities and limitations of increasing the acreage of wheat.
