Abstract
Excerpts: …I propose in the present discussion first briefly to trace the development of western States agriculture through the past thirty years; second, to trace in more detail, and in terms of its leading farms and range enterprises, the rapid changes of the past fifteen years and to try to account for these changes; third, to attempt a look ahead in the light of present and prospective economic conditions and in the light of the nature of the land, climate, and other physical characteristics of the region, specifically in terms of its most important lines of agricultural production; and, finally, to discuss some of the more basic considerations, mainly of an economic nature, of importance to Western States agriculture and hence, of importance to those who, in one way or another, have responsibility in shaping its future development.
