Abstract

The significance of rurality in the present process of social change and spatial allocation cannot be estimated without taking into account the prevailing « urban » and « rural » symbolisation as well as the conception of their relation. During the nineties in France the dominant social representation of rurality is idyllic when at the same time the city is considered unsustainable. The rural way of life is so valorised that new real dynamics of migrations are observed.
