Abstract

The meliponary is a roofed structure named by Mayas Najil Cab or bee house. Among their functions, the following stand out: facilitating the management, care and protection of the colonies from natural enemies and environmental conditions, primarily from temperature and moisture fluctuations that place at risk the life of the colony. Its location, orientation and design are important to protect bee colonies, to facilitate management of the colonies and to increase production. This study refers to a modern meliponary, designed and built taking into account the traditional and scientific knowledge with the aim of achieving greater efficiency in the management and protection of the colonies of Scaptotrigona mexicana Guérin-Meneville, under the climate conditions of the central zone of Veracruz, México.
