Abstract
Four countries of the EEC, Denmark, France, The Netherlands and the FRG have published since 1970 statistical data showing the utilization of their feeding ressources by their main animal species : cattle, pig and poultry. Since comparable EEC data do not exist in general, these national statistics permit, through an analysis of the components of the average feeding rations, a first comparison of the various methods used for animal feeding in Europe. This analysis brings out a better knowledge of the use of the various items and in particular of cereals substitutes. Furthermore it shows that the concept of « milkfactory » does not represent the standard situation of the dairy branch in the EEC countries where fodder remains the principal component of cattle feeding. Finally, the specificity of the Dutch model is brought to light, not only compared with France, but also compared with two other northen states including Denmark.
