Abstract
Auctions are cooperatives which sell fruits and vegetables over the auctionlock. This system can only be applied if there is a concentration of both supply and demand. The dependence of the dutch vegetable sector on exports has forced the auctions to answer the demands of the trade by a strong concentration of supply and by applying a number of marketing measures. Thanks to this policy the commercial position of the auctions towards even the largest buyers remains strong. The position of an auction towards Its membersdepends on the net price payed to the grower compared with net prices paid by other auctions.
