Abstract

For French farming the importance and the effects of the world market can be estimated by three complementary approaches : — the observation of trade flow for each product which shows that more than 60 % , of French farming and of the food industry is directed towards the EEC but that EEC occupies the first place in the world as a farming and food stuffs importing zone, which cannot but affect the farmers in the member countries ; — the political approach underlining the transfer to Common Market level of most of the responsibilities and decisions concerning the practices, rules and obligations that govern world exchange and in this respect the Common Market policy shows a certain inhibition that national options must complete ; — finally the approach of firms which shows that most of the commercial activity in the service of French farming in its confrontation with the world market is based on two types of firms, subsidiaries of big international firms and cooperative unions.
