Abstract

On the basis of theoretical models and statistical material on the EEC's foreign trade, the authors analyse the relative development of the EEC's agricultural imports from developing countries, as compared to that of agricultural imports from developed third countries. They show how the Common Agricultural Policy and the trade policies derived from it (system of variable levies and customs duties, existence or non-existence of trade preferences) and other determinants (export subsidies by exporting countries, growth of demand within the EEC) work together to « generate » the specific trends of developing countries' agricultural exports to the EEC.
