Abstract

Excerpt from the report: We have come a long way in home demonstration work since 1914, from 349 county home demonstration agents at the time of the passage of the Smith-Lever Act to 1,916 county home demonstration agents and county assistants. Home demonstration agents constitute 33 percent of the county extension personnel for 48 States, Puerto Rico, Alaska, and Hawaii. The Bankhead-Jones Act made possible further development of the cooperative extension system by authorizing the appropriation of additional Federal funds.
