Abstract

Excerpts: Costs of crop production have risen rapidly since the Farm Production Economics Division published it reports on variable costs for 1970. Nearly all of the per acre cost increase is due to the rapid rise in prices paid for farm production items. The rate of use has changed only moderately for most inputs. The 1970 estimates are being revised and the procedure for updating budgets is being computerized under the new firm enterprise data system project. But this will not be completed for some time. The purpose of this report is to provide interim estimates of cost changes since 1970 for feed grains, wheat, soybeans and cotton in selected producing areas.
