Abstract

Excerpts from the report: This is a report on a study of the San Gabriel River Drainage, which is part of the Los Angeles Basin in Southern California. The works recommended in this report are located in the mountainous, upper watershed portion of the river basin and compliment any existing or proposed downstream works accomplished or that might be considered by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. The upstream mountainous portion of the San Gabriel Basin has a history of recurrent high intensity storms and wildfires. High intensity storms occurring on inherently unstable watersheds that have been denuded by wildfire cause high volumes of runoff, sediment and debris. This study was needed to explore means to control sediment and debris and to reduce flood damages in upstream watersheds.
