Abstract
Report Introduction: The production and marketing of woody ornamentals has become increasingly important in North Carolina's agricultural economy. According to the 1964 Census of Agriculture, the number of firms producing nursery stock in North Carolina increased from 411 in 1954 to 801 in 1964. During the same period, the value of sales rose from $1,533,000 to $3,998,000. The need for statistical information to serve as a basis for planning has increased with the size of the business and the accompanying growth of production and marketing problems. This report provides an economic profile of the woody ornamental industry in North Carolina. It contains descriptive data designed to give a general picture of the industry and to reveal problem areas that may require additional study by public or private agencies.
