Africa's gain in output of agricultural commodities in 1972 did not reach the long-term average annual increase of 3 percent; per-capita food production slipped 1 percent. West Asia's total agricultural production gained 5 percent in 1972, surpassing the 4.5-percent long-term average annual increase, and raising per-capita food production 3 percent over 1971.
