Abstract

Excerpts from the report: Representatives of the Los Angeles wholesale flower market requested the assistance of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in planning improved floral marketing facilities. The need to relocate and to develop improved facilities has been hastened by inadequate and deteriorating facilities in the present market, space limitations prohibiting expansion to meet the rapidly growing floral market in the Los Angeles area, and the economic infeasibility created by rising real estate values in the present downtown location. This study had the following objectives: • To describe the wholesale flower marketing facilities in Los Angeles and to determine their adequacy for present and future needs. • To quantify and to project the sales volume of firms operating in the Los Angeles wholesale flower market. • To determine the feasibility of renovating existing facilities. • To establish the kind and amount of facilities required for the efficient wholesale marketing of floral commodities in Los Angeles. • To outline the costs and benefits of relocating and constructing new facilities to meet present needs and to provide for anticipated growth.
