Abstract

This study focuses on examining the extent to which social and economic factors influence possible farm enterprise continuity/ discontinuity outcomes (e.g., succession, inheritance without succession, and/or dissolution) among existing farm households. Thus, the study tests hypotheses drawn from two theoretical perspectives ( entrepreneurial and preservationist) based on the empirical data collected in Riverside village, where is located around Kimhae, Kyongnam province in Korea. It was found that the regression analysis results are not statistically robust in explaining farm succession outcomes. However, this sociological analysis of family farm succession and dissolution will provide important policy implications about the social reproduction of Korean agriculture and rural community in the 21st century.
