Abstract

Although Americans are often admonished for eating too much-especially fats and sugars-the National Food Supply Statistics' indicate that such advice, being ignored. The caloric and most nutrient levels of the U.S. diet are the same or higher than last year and 10 years ago.' Furthermore, consumption of sugars in 1979 is the highest ever recorded-213 grams of carbohydrate and 850 calories per person per day.
