Abstract

The aim of this study was retrospective histopathological on clinical samples and sero-prevalence of avian leukosis virus antibodies in layer farms were done. Histopathological samples (Liver) were preserved in 10% neutral buffered formalin and processed, embedded in paraffin, sectioned and stained using standard histopathological techniques. For ELISA, eggs (n=2) and blood samples ( (n=10) were collected antibody titre were measured by ELISA. Histopathological lesions of clinical samples were homogenous population of lymphoblasts appeared as either nodular or diffuse form with numerous mitotic figures, displacement and compression of the hepatic parenchyma by the accumulation of large number of neoplastic lymphocytes. Among the 100 egg yolk samples, 43 samples were positive for antibodies to ALV. Among the 10 serum samples, 6 samples were positive for antibodies to ALV. Out of total 110 samples, 49 samples were positive. Overall prevalence of avian leukosis was 44.6%. Prevalence of 5 selected layer farm varied from 25% - 65%, and the height (60%) prevalence of antibodies to avian leukosis of BAU Poultry Farm.
