Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of innovation in the poultry production chain of a cooperative of western Santa Catarina, Brazil. The object of study was an agribusiness that coordinates the development of the main activities. This is a case study with a qualitative approach. Interviews were conducted with six managers of the agro-industry, ranging from the production of dies to the distribution of the finished products, through incubation activities, production of feed and poultry, as well as slaughter and processing. We verified that the object of this study mainly develops incremental innovations that are largely based on suppliers of both inputs as machinery and equipment, in regard to process innovations. In the case of product innovations, there is the use of internal sources of knowledge, especially by the sectors of R&D and product and process engineering, considering rare the cooperation or partnerships with external agents, such as research centers, universities and competitors.
