Abstract

Results of a descriptive case study performed in the Brazilian Association of Organic Cattle Ranching (ABPO), headquartered in Campo Grande - State of Mato Grosso do Sul, are presented in this article seeking to verify the environmental, economical and social sustainability. We used a semi-structured interview guide performed to the president, directors and associates of ABPO. We also used current and/or old documents of the organization records, searching for its history and actions redeemed in its activity. Data were processed by means of the content analyzing, with dimensions and pre-established categories. The study shows that the ABPO has been developing a broad understanding of sustainability and perceives a multifaceted spectrum of social demands which should be fulfilled. The interviewed have knowledge about sustainability practices, essential in the organic beef cattle production. In addition, they demonstrate that have acquired knowledge about this field of activity because they have been acting in the cattle breeding for some time, as well as they have a concern with the swampland of Mato Grosso do Sul.
