Abstract
A survey of 631 households in six districts revealed that only 27 percent households own ponds and ditches. Twenty nine percent of these are individually owned, but 15 percent of pond area is individually owned. Eighty percent of the ponds are usable for fish culture and 90 percent of these are already in use. However, productivity is very low being about 3 maunds per acre annually. Owners indicated that regular supplies of fish fries, provision of credit and marketing facilities would help increase fish production.
