Abstract
Excerpts: The present trend toward large-scale dairy plants is one of the most important economic developments, that have occurred in the history of the dairy industry in the United States. Research directed toward analysis of the trend thus far has been limited, however. This report has been prepared in an attempt to present a relatively comprehensive picture of the development and characteristics of the trend, and to emphasize its relationship to the urgent need for reorganization and consolidation of many existing cooperative dairy associations. Many of the data presented herein pertain to the dairy industry as a whole and not solely to cooperative associations. The trend is industry-wide and must be considered from that standpoint.
