Abstract

Excerpts from the Foreword: On June 11, 1965, Nicaragua's Minister of Agriculture, Alberto Reyes, submitted a request to the AID Mission in Nicaragua for assistance in an analysis of the organization and programs of the Ministry. Particular emphasis was placed on the need for a study of the research, teaching, and extension functions and the possible need for some restructuring of these programs in order that they might make the maximum contribution to the development of Nicaraguan agriculture. This report is not confined to the Ministry of Agriculture alone. Particular attention is directed to the need for better coordination among all groups concerned with agricultural development in Nicaragua. Consequently, the report includes a brief resume of the various agriculturally related organizations and institutions, along with recommendations concerning more effective coordination of the efforts of all these groups.
