Abstract
The objective was to evaluate the seed yield and its components of 12 genotypes of simple-cross hybrid maize (Zea mays L.), taking into account fodder traits. The sowing was carried out according to the days of flowering of the male parent and of the 12 females; the female:male rate was 8:2; a seed was deposited every 25 m in furrows at 80 cm (50000 plants ha1). Fertilization of 160N-60P-40K was applied. The following were measured: cobs per plant (CPP), lines per cob (LPC), grains per line (GPL), length of cob (LC), diameter of cob (DC), percentage of non-formed grains (PDFG), seed yield (SY), and plant height (PH). The simple crosses, CL12CL11 and CL4CL1, presented higher values of PH, CPP and SY. The varieties with higher PH presented higher SY and CPP, and lower PDFG. The female furrows furthest from the pollinizing source presented higher SY and CPP. There is a high positive correlation between LPC and GPL, between DC and LPC, and for GPL and PDFG a negative correlation.
