Abstract

Efforts to maintain the potential of Balicattle in Barru Regency which must be maintained as germplasm is how farmers remain motivated to purify Balicattle. Balicattle have a significant strategy and an important role, as well as a promising market opportunity because they are native cattle producing national meat that have been proven to be able to adapt to local conditions that deserve attention. The purpose of this study was to determine the motivation of farmers to purify Balicattle in Tanete Riaja District, Barru Regency, South Sulawesi Province. This research was conducted on four livestock farmer groups with a population of 140 farmers. The number of samples using the slovin formula and stratified random sampling method was 58 people with a distribution of 12 people from the Lempangeng Farmers' Group, 22 people from Makkawaru, 12 people from Sipurennue and 12 people from Lempang who were taken at random. Data were collected through interviews with the help of questionnaires measured using a Likert scale, namely a score of 1 to 3 with category 1 = not good; 2 = moderate; and 3 = good and analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results showed that farmers in Tanete Riaja Sub-district, Barru Regency were motivated in refining Balicattle because of the economic demands of the family, increasing social status, having free time for farmers, opportunities to get greater results, and additional income.
