Abstract
The present paper analyzes attitude of the rural youth towards general and professional education of farmers, as recorded in four villages in Croatia. The researches I were carried out in 1968, 1978, 1988, within the project analyzing the socio-economic changes. Four groups of rural youth have been encompassed: farmers, those working off the farm, high-school and college students, and elementary school students of the eighth grade. There where the traditional agricultural production prevails, 50 - 60 percent of the respondents agrees to a certain or to a full degree that the farmers need no school education. When the conditions are those of modern agriculture, on the contrary, almost nine tenths of the young express their positive attitude towards general and professional education. As compared to other social groups of the rural youth, the young farmers have expressed pronouncedly conservative attitude towards both general and professional education. Also, the participants in less developed villages have shown more negative attitude towards education than those from more developed surroundings.
