Abstract
The coronavirus pandemic can be treated as a convenient circumstance for testing sociological theory and key claims of its individual subdisciplines, including those describing the rural segment of Polish society. The aim of this article is to present examples of ways of responding to and counteracting problematic situations that the contemporary rural community has encountered as a result of the restrictions introduced by the government. The author focuses on the neighborhood - an institution that he observed during the nationwide quarantine in the spring of 2020. The reflection focuses on the problem of compliance of actions taken within this institution with the rules of coexistence in a specific local community - it aims to answer the question: is it true to say that in a crisis, the interests of the circle of closest people are placed above the interests of the community?
