Abstract

The number of farms operated by racial and ethnic minorities has been growing during the past couple decades, but the growth has generally not kept pace with the growth of minorities in the total population or in rural areas. Unlike other racial or ethnic groups, the number of farms operated by blacks has been in a long decline. In contrast, the number of Native American farmers and Spanish-origin farmers has significantly increased in recent years.
