Abstract

An account of travels starting in Ames, Iowa, and moving into South Dakota is presented. A banker's visit with Hutterites in the areas shows that they have a simple life but they make maximum use of new technology. One stop was Broin Enterprises Inc., an ethanol plant located in Scotland, South Dakota. The Hutterites get 2.7 gallons of ethanol per bushel of corn. A by-product is distiller dried grain which is 31% protein.
