Abstract
Results of the American Bankers Association's annual mid-year agricultural credit survey, which is a unique source of information regarding farm sector and agricultural lender performance, are analyzed, with focus on farm financial stress questions that were maintained throughout the period of analysis, 1982-1993. Survey results show that by most measures, the levels of financial stress peaked in 1985-1986. Farm sector economic fundamentals strengthened in 1987-1989, with the resultant financial stress levels for most indicators in the 1990s below the 1982 levels.
