Abstract

As the agricultural market enters a period of transition away from government regulation and control, farm income from government sources is expected to decline and shifts in land use patterns are anticipated. Future production decisions will be based upon market prices, although the government will continue to intervene in relation to commodities with inelastic demand or where weather affects production levels. Additional change anticipated during the 1990s are the removal of trade barriers and movement toward greater environmental responsibility.
