Abstract

A survey of farmers in Virginia on agrilending found: 1) 55.4% of respondents reported no agricultural debt; 2) borrowers used the same lenders for consumer and agricultural credit needs; 3) the characteristics by which lenders were rated included interest rates, service quality, and financial soundness; 4) respondents saw niches for non-traditional agricultural credit sources; and 5) borrowers were interested in tax planning, estate planning, and financial management services.
