Abstract

The urbanization of Africancountryside poses the problem of the future of agrarian landscapes on the outskirts of cities. In Senegal, as in most west african cities, these spaces are undergoing a spatial reconstruction linked to urban expansion. This study analyses the spatio-temporal dynamics from 1965 to 2018 in secondary cities of Senegal, but quite dynamic: Medina Gounass and Diaobe lacated in the south of Senegal. Field surveys and interviews with resource persons (managers of structures and farmers' organizations) have made it possible to assess the degradation of the environment through a change in land use. The images of Corona 1965, Landsat 1999, Google Earth 2012 and Bing Map 2018 are used to analyze the evolution of land cover facies in these two localities.Mapping has shown that rainfed areas have been overtaken everywhere by the urban front. This urbanization is strongly linked to land pressure occurring in a context of complete communalization with the law number 2013-10 of 28 december 2013, overvaluing the plans of extension of the city. Sustainable urban development has become an important focus on policy agendas in response to urban issues.
