Abstract

Located in the middle of the equatorial forest in the Congo Basin, the South-West region is undoubtedly one of the richest in Cameroon. It has a diversity of biodiversity with significant importance of endogenous species as well as commercial species. Natural conditions are favorable for agriculture , which has led the Germans as soon as they arrived in Cameroon to establish themselves there. This has led to land grabbing for various uses (agriculture, mining, logging, conservation). Currently, approximately 2005778,04 ha is 80,54% of the area of the region has already been surrendered. This raises conflicts between different uses without taking into account the living space for the increasingly numerous but marginalized populations. From 1986 to 2018, the region lost 19.5% of its forests and 10.5% of its mangroves, converted into plantations and degraded forests. Conservation actions have helped to increase the montane forests by 7.6% over the same period.
