Abstract

Excerpts from the Preface: The accelerated increase in the production of gasoline, together with the relatively small domestic reserves of petroleum, have aroused interest in the future supply of motor fuels. Many inquiries for information on the utilization of agricultural motor fuels have resulted. Questions arise on engine operation, fuel testing, engine design and design changes, blending, storage, fuel stability, and world-wide past experience with the use of such motor fuels. In answer to these inquiries this work was undertaken. In this review of the technical literature on motor fuels from agricultural sources an attempt has been made to cover quite thoroughly all that has appeared on the subject since 1920. The classification of articles under the first five headings may appear somewhat arbitrary at times; yet it was thought that such a division would be of sufficient assistance to overshadow its shortcomings. References appear only once in the text. Both an author and a subject index are included; the latter should be of considerable help in finding the required information. Patents have been classified according to the date of publication.
