Abstract
Excerpt from the report: The following experiments were conducted with Starking Delicious and Golden Delicious apples to determine the optimum oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, the effect of the length of time to reach 5 percent oxygen after the room is sealed, and the effectiveness of monoethanolamine as a carbon dioxide scrubbing solution. This study was part of a broad program of research to reduce deterioration and to prolong the life of fresh produce moving through marketing channels.
