Abstract
Excerpt from the report: Blueberries were among the first fruits packaged in consumer units with transparent film caps. Blueberries have delicate skin and bloom, and are highly perishable. They need care and protection to maintain their quality during storage and marketing. The present tests were conducted with blueberries grown near Burgaw, N. C, Salisbury, Md., and Hammondton, N.J. They were conducted at the growing areas and in laboratories at Raleigh, N.C, and Beltsville, Md. The purpose was to determine the storage and shelf life of commercially and experimentally handled and packaged blueberries and to devise ways of extending the storage and shelf life.
