Abstract

Seventeen candidate insecticides were evaluated for direct-contact, residue, and vapor toxicity to adults of the confused flour beetle, Tribolium conjusum Jacquelin duVal, and larvae of the black carpet beetle, Attagenus megatoma (Fabricius). The most promising insecticides against both insect species were methidathion and Shell SD 9020 for direct-contact toxicity; methyl parathion and Shell SD 9020 for residue toxicity; and Chemagro 4637, Chemagro 4641, Chemagro 4671, methyl parathion, Shell SD 9020, and Virginia Carolina VC 3-668 for vapor toxicity. The most persistently effective insecticide residues were methidathion, methyl parathion, Rhodia 11783, Rhodia 11807, Shell SD 9020, and Shell SD 9098.
