Abstract
Excerpts from the report Foreword: This publication is one of a group of reports to be issued by the Agricultural Marketing Service describing the use of food products by one segment of the "away-from-home" market for food--employee food services in manufacturing plants with at least 250 persons on their payroll in January-February 1956. The nationwide survey of inplant food services represents the Department's first major attempt to evaluate the needs, demands, and marketing practices of institutional feeding operations and was undertaken as part of a broad program of research aimed at improving marketing efficiency and expanding markets for farm products. This report summarizes the preliminary findings of the survey and includes tables providing comprehensive data on expenditures for and use of food by these inplant facilities.
