Abstract
Excerpts from the report: Peanuts compete, in their principal use as food, with other nuts, candy, spreads, sandwich fillers, and such snack items as popcorn and potato chips. Along the marketing channel, the peanuts to supply this use must be stored until needed, for the crop is harvested in the fall but the peanuts and peanut products are consumed more or less uniformly throughout the year. If peanuts are to maintain their competitive position, their storage, as well as their production and processing, must be accomplished in the most efficient and economical manner possible. In this study, the principal factors affecting the cost and efficiency of storage in marketing farmers' stock and shelled peanuts were analyzed, with emphasis on farmers' stock. Farmers' stock peanuts are the unshelled and unsorted crop, whether owned by farmers or by others.
