Excerpts from the report Introduction: This is one of a series of annual reports containing information on fiber properties and spinning performance of cotton from all major commercial production areas of the United States. The results of fiber and spinning tests made in connection with the annual quality surveys are used to check on the effectiveness of the standards to be sure they continue to reflect differences in spinning utility. Data derived from these surveys provide the basis for studies of relationships between various fiber properties and processing performance. Timely publication of the results of these surveys enables farmers and breeders to use the data as a source of quality information regarding cottons produced under commercial conditions. Merchants and manufacturers also use these results to locate sources of cotton having properties and spinning performance desirable for specific uses.
