Abstract

Suggestions for alleviating poverty around the world through new policies are the basis for the Brandt Commission Report entitled North-South; A Program for Survival. This paper describes those issues that deal with food production and development assistance, food security proposals, liberalization of international food trade, and balance-of-payments problems raised by the Brandt Commission Report. The commission made policy recommendations for action, and this paper presents a description of the Carter and Reagan administration's reactions to these suggested policies.
