Abstract

The crisis of values has predictable consequences, primarily economic. It affects the motivation of workers, reducing the competitive spirit, striving for excellence, focusing on achievements and thoroughness in performing duties. The crisis of values has origin in dualism of anti-work and work ethic in Serbia. To this phenomenon we should add current exploitative capitalism, where workers are maximum exploited for miserable compensation. When these factors add to the historical legacy and mentality, we get the rounded picture for the crisis of values in Serbia. Changes in values are a prerequisite of successful social change. It is necessary, therefore, to dispense with the remnants of feudalism, the Turkish oppression, communism and the crisis of the nineties, and affirm the work ethic.
