Those economists employed by Extension have no less responsibility for professional competency and currency than our resident teaching/research colleagues. In fact, one can argue that we must be more so for we must be fully versant with the professional discipline and, in addition, be able to communicate with a lay audience. This latter point and the phrase "extension economist" in this title are probably the two major contributors to any estrangement we may have with AAEA.
