Abstract

This study estimates price and income effects of the 1985 and 1984 corn and rice programs. On average, the corn programscost U.S. consumers, taxpayers, and society more than their net gains to producers by $1.4 billion, while dead—weight loss of the rice programs totaled $220 million a year.
