Abstract
Landowners making additions to cropland in 1975-77 differed little from all owners of farm and ranch land. They were predominantly white, male, and lived in the counties where their land was located. About 89 percent awned their land as sole proprietors or in husband-wife ownership. Over 50 percent owned all the land they operated. Of the owners reporting additions to cropland, 50 percent were 35-54.years of age and 40 percent reported more than a high school education. Over 40 percent also reported their occupation as closely allied to farming.
