Abstract
The horticulture sector in Ghana has fast become attractive due the increased income that it is perceived to be generating. However, the pineapple value chain is faced with certain constraints that make it difficult to operate in. Due to these challenges, the relationships in the pineapple value chain is weak. These concerns gave rise to the interest to identify the inefficiencies in the pineapple chain and how these have affected productivity and profits in this sector. The main objective of the study is to carry out a value chain analysis of pineapple in the Greater Accra and Central Regions of Ghana. The specific objectives are: To identify the causes of low productivity and inefficiencies of actors in the pineapple value chain in order to add value and meet consumers expectations. To map out and analyze relationships between actors in the chain to strengthen and improve the pineapple value chain. The study aims at understanding the relationships and dynamics within the pineapple value chain and what implications these have on all actors. The main development contribution of this study is to provide evidence-based, relevant and detailed guide for appropriate and effective interventions.
