Abstract
This study examines the impact of selected factors on employment in agriculture in Slovakia. Slovakia was known as an agricultural country, but employment in this sector has declined in the last two decades. The research is based on firm-level data from the database of the Slovak Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for the years 1997, 2001, 2005, 2009 and 2013. The results show that wages and agricultural utilised area are the most significant factors that influence the number of employees in agriculture in Slovakia. Other factors such as production type (crop or livestock) and productivity were found to be less significant factors that influence employment in agriculture
