Abstract

A number of soybean cultivars was taken into observation to study their performance on the sandy loam soils of the Zanderij formation (52 30' Ν latitude) a belt of acid low fertility soils with generally good physical conditions. Apart from one local entry all material was imported, cultivars having been introduced from INTSOY (US), U T A (Nigeria) and AVRDC (Taiwan). Yields did not exceed 2.5 tons/ha. Most cultivars were rejected because of relatively low plant height. Vada, SJ-2, UFV-1 (BP-2), ICA-1-125 and Jupiter were select for further testing. As to soybean in général further information is required on the effect of sowing date.
