Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyze the process of ensuring of the authenticity and protection of regional and traditional product, which is a Kashubian strawberry „kaszëbskô malëna” and the procedures provided for granting a certificate of protected geographical indication (PGI). This paper presents the factors affecting the ensuring of the authenticity of this product. Kashubian strawberry is on the list of regional and traditional Pomeranian Region products since 2008. In 2009 it was registered in the European system of names and designations as a Protected Geographical Indication. Regional and traditional food arouses great interest of both producers and consumers. Traditional food is an important element of the European cultural heritage. Production and sale of traditional food products can provide not only food with high nutritional values, but also can be an important factor in the economic development of many European regions.
