Abstract
The agri-food industry is one of the most representative sectors of the Spanish economy,
both for its contribution to domestic economic growth and, above all, for its international
projection.
The aim of this paper is, first, identify the strongest chapters of the Spanish agri-food exports
and, secondly, to analyze the ability of Spain to consolidate and improve the position reached
(market share) in world markets, given the dynamics of international demand of each of the
chapters considered and the degree of diversification in terms of customers (destinations)
and exportable supply.
The results confirm that Spain has managed to increase its market share in almost all agrifood
activities, with the exception of fruit and vegetables, characterized by a high concentration
of sales in the European market. This increase in market share, indicative of the sector
competitiveness, has also ocurred in some of the chapters where international markets show
greater dynamism, which offers favorable prospects for the sector.
